Women often come to me asking me to help them to develop their intuition.
Years ago I approached it from the direction of psychic development, mediumship, channelling, because that’s how I was trained. But these days I see it differently – and that can seem more appealing to you or less, depending on where you’re coming from.
In the early days of my journey through spirituality it was suggested that anything to do with the mind was just 3D stuff – lower mental mind and negative ego stuff. They said that it was not as important as your higher mind… and we were encouraged to “rise above it”.
But I’ve realised that, in that approach we are missing out on a whole lot of really important inner work that we need to do if we are to heal, awaken, transcend, ascend, become sovereign, empowered… or whatever other term you’d like to use to describe your personal growth.
This is nicely tied up with spiritual bypassing too by the way because looking back I can see how we were almost encouraged to ignore inner child or shadow work by empty platitudes such as:
“Everything happens for a reason” – used to bypass processing actual pain or trauma.
Or “I just need to raise my vibration” – instead of addressing the very real pattern or behaviour that’s actually creating the problem.
Both of these do have a place, but if they’re not fully explored then they become an obstacle to growth. They just sit there preventing you from moving forwards. It’s an unconscious pattern of stuckness.
Anyway, having been involved in spiritual circles for some 30 years now, I’ve learned to recognise where our so-called “intuition” comes from. I can see when it’s clear and when it’s not and I’ve learned to recognise what’s blocking it and why… and yes, very often it IS 3D mental mind stuff … and that shouldn’t be ignored.
Throughout our lives we have been encouraged to give our power away to others, basically.
We are taught that doctors know best, teachers know best, our parents know best.
It seems that everyone knows better than we do what’s best for us!
Now in some situations their guidance might be useful but it should never override our inner knowing – our own inner guidance.
Take for example what happened during covid – the mass intuition override, the social pressure, the tribal belonging mechanism on a global scale… So many women have come to me saying that they completely overrode their intuition and have lived to regret it. Whether that was medical interventions, the closing of their businesses, the judgement they felt towards others, the loss of friendships and relationships and in some cases, even the rejection of certain family members who refused to follow the narrative.
The problem is that we haven’t been trained to hear, listen, feel our inner knowing – and definitely not to follow it – and if we ARE lucky enough to have recognised it then we are most certainly encouraged to override it.
Because it’s not logical. It’s not practical. It doesn’t make sense.
But it does. Always. Providing that it is coming from the right place and that it IS genuine intuition – as opposed to, for example:
A conditioned response designed to keep you safely within your comfort zone.
Or an unconscious fear response – because your mind is jammed in “future prediction mode” which is all based on events that happened in the past (usually childhood) which are no longer relevant now, at this stage in your life. (This is a protection response).
Or that you have correctly identified a personal green light as opposed to wishful thinking or an outside persuasion. (This could be our need to belong and to be accepted by the tribe)… to name just a few factors that have a real affect upon our inner knowing.
Everyone has intuition but many people have just got so used to overriding it that they have come to believe they don’t.
Sometimes they tell me that they used to be intuitive when they were younger, but now it’s gone.
The good new is that it’s never gone. But they have probably buried it.
One of the ladies in the Sanctuary group told me recently that there have been several occasions when her intuition clearly told her that something was wrong and that she should pull out of what she was getting involved in – yet she decided to ignore it.
The outcome each time was disastrous.
She clearly recognised where she’d gone wrong… but instead of correcting that the next time around, she still went ahead and did the same thing – overrode her intuition.
Again and again until the point now, where she’s scared to try new things and procrastinates to the point that its painful.
Through the action of ignoring her intuition and experiencing the fall out from that, she formed a belief around it.
So we identified the belief she’d created, that: everything she tries goes horribly wrong. She can’t catch a break and nothing ever works out well for her.
That’s all mind stuff.
Our beliefs create an unconscious behaviour that runs in the background and affects our choices, decisions and actions until such time as we can identify them – understand where they’re coming from and then update the belief at which point we begin to get a completely different outcome because the old programme is no longer running the show.
We also do some energy work around that but that’s why the mind stuff is important because you can’t heal what you don’t understand.
You can be as psychic as heck and you can really know and feel your intuition quite clearly but if you are running some kind of unconscious belief like this, then it does have the opportunity to block you.
For best results and to get your intuition up and running cleanly, you will need to be able to identify this behaviour pattern and clear it so that you don’t sabotage yourself without even realising it. When you do that THEN your intuition can flow nicely – you’ll see it, feel it, sense it because you’re clear – and that’s when you get to follow that inner knowing and live the beautiful soul-led, inner directed and intuitively aligned life that you’re searching for.
You were not born distrusting yourself. That was taught to you. And whatever it was that taught you that can be identified, understood, cleared and updated.
That intuition, that knowing… it’s not separate from you. It’s a part of who you are and that’s the work I do with women inside Sanctuary. Not telling you what to believe or do – I don’t profess to know what’s best for you – but you do. And I can help you remember that – and learn to trust yourself again.
