#15 When You See the Pattern but Still Fall Back

Woman reflecting on awareness, old patterns, and identity change
Let’s talk about awareness. Because I’ve noticed that having a new found awareness around something doesn’t always change things in the way you think it should.

Even when you can see something clearly, and understand it…
And even when you recognise it within yourself and know exactly what’s happening…

You can still find yourself in a situation where an old pattern is playing out all over again

You would think that it should be enough to see it and understand it but despite everything you know, you probably feel really frustrated when you realise that you still respond in the same old way.

Not all the time, but enough to notice it.

And that can be confusing because it makes you question yourself.

You know you’ve done the work.
You know you understand what’s going on.

And yet, in certain moments, you feel quite powerless to change anything.

It’s like an energy comes through, that is so familiar that it’s almost automatic… and before you know it, you realise that you’ve overridden what you know and you’ve gone back to an old way of living, thinking and behaving.

I’ve seen this happen so many times… and I’ve done it myself too!

It’s not that the awareness isn’t there.

It’s that there is a difference between seeing something… and being able to stay with it when it actually matters.

That difference isn’t always obvious at first… but when you start to look at it more closely, you begin to see that it’s often a case of your old way of being versus a newer version of yourself that you’re still learning to hold on to.

Once you begin to notice it, and you can stabilise in your new identity, that’s where the real shift begins… when you’re able to stay with that newer version of yourself, even when it would be easier to fall back.

Let’s keep in touch!
